Lessons Program

We offer private one-on-one lessons in guitar, bass, drums, piano, and band instruments to students of any age. Our teaching staff consists of college trained pros who work with each student individually to make sure they get the most out of every lesson. From Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, or anything in between there is a teacher here at Agawam Music who can help you learn and have fun!


Lessons cost $22 per half hour session, paid on a monthly basis. There are no long term contracts to sign. All you need is your instrument and the desire to learn. Call or stop in today and our staff will help you find a day and time that fits into your schedule.

Justin Bard - Guitar

As a youngin' idolizing sports stars of the day, it was when Justin first heard the likes of Brian May and Slash, that he would drop his interest in sports and start playing guitar. He has been taking lessons ever since, while overseeing the historical progression of Guitar Academy to Gordon LaSalle Music, and now to Agawam Music. At eighteen, he was offered a job here as a teacher and has been honing his teaching skills, as well as his playing skills as a multi-instrumentalist, (though he teaches mainly guitar), serving as a perfect accompaniment to his musical ambitions in local bands, as well as writing and recording in his home studio. As a teacher, he focuses on correct form, technique, active playing/listening, and creative skills. 

Justin Annis - Drums, Piano

Justin Annis graduated from Holyoke Community College in 2003 with an Associate of Arts degree, and in May of 2006 graduated from the jazz department at the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Music degree. He has been playing professionally since age 17, and teaching drums and piano at Agawam Music since 2003. Justin has performed with the Leah Randazzo Group and the Jus Us Band at famed venues like NYC's Blue Note Jazz Club, Boston Symphony Hall, and the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun.

Frank Cook - Guitar, Bass

Frank Cook has been a long time guitarist for the Savage Brothers Band. He began playing guitar at age 8 after hearing KISS Alive, for the first time. Through Junior High and High School, he copied many of his favorite licks by Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and Jeff Beck. Later he discovered Classical guitar which he studied at Hartt School of Music. Frank is also well schooled in Jazz, Blues and enjoys teaching improvisation and soloing. Frank has played over 4000 shows, including opening for acts such as Tower of Power, The Guess Who, Dickey Belts of the Allman Brothers, and the Marshall Tucker Band

Frank Payeur - Guitar, Bass

Grew up listening to blues, funk, soul, and jazz. An alumni of Holyoke Community College, and Westfield State University. Graduated from Westfield with a Bachelors degree in General Music but specializes in Jazz Voice, and Jazz Guitar. Frank has been teaching lessons for four years and plays in two bands.

Victor Retynsky - Piano

Victor started learning the piano at the age of five. Focused on Western Classical piano repertoire, studying under graduates of Moscow Music Conservatory and then later, Yale University. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, as well as Jazz Workshops, and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1976. Performance venues have included the Iron Horse, Cafe Manhattan, and the Ralph Waldo Emerson Inn. Victor enjoys teaching youth and older students with basics of music reading and theory.

Faith Thompson - Piano

Faith Thompson teaches both classical music and improvisation. She participates yearly in the Young Artists Piano Competition, a classical music competition, held at Westfield State University. She has also sent students to the Steinway Competition in Boston and the Bay State Piano Competition. Additionally, she teaches improvisation and has studied jazz piano for four years at the Community Music School in Springfield, Massachusetts with Ralph Whittle. She also plays the organ in church, directs multiple choirs at church and is presently taking accordion lessons.

Faith has taught music lessons for many years and taught high school math for eight years. She holds Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Connecticut. She has also have completed all of the course work for a Masters of Education from Westfield State University and holds a Juris Doctorate from Western New England University. Faith is currently the Director of Music at Bloomfield United Methodist Church in Bloomfield Connecticut.
